Sangria is a favorite for parties, particularly in summer months. It is popular in Spain, Portugal and Mexico, and is a crowd pleaser, and doesn’t take much time to make. This recipe is quite simply the best Sangria recipe ever. If you are expecting a crowd, you can simple double the recipe.
You will need 1 bottle of red wine, and can use Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Rioja, Zinfandel, or Shiraz. For fruit, you will need 1 lemon, 1 orange, 1 lime all cut into wedges. Also, you will need 2 tablespoons of sugar, a splash of orange juice or lemonade, 2 shots of gin or triple sec, 1 cup of either raspberries or strawberries (and you can use thawed or frozed), 1 small can of diced pineapple(with the juice)and 4 cups of ginger ale.
Pour the wine into a large pitcher and squeeze the juice wedges of lime, lemon and orange into the wine. Toss in the fruit wedges, removing the seeds. Add the pineapple and its juice, then add the sugar, orange juice, and gin or triple sec. Chill overnight. Just before serving, add ginger ale, the berries, and ice. If you are making this to serve right away, use chilled red wine and serve over lots of ice. Keep in mind that the best sangria chills in the refrigerator for 24 hours so that the flavors marinate together.
